Princeville murders: Arrests close at-hand?

TARBORO — PRINCEVILLE — Princeville Police are growing closer to making arrest in a double homicide that shocked the community March 18.

"We have developed suspects," Police Chief Joey Petway said at Monday's town meeting. "I assure you that the family of both victims will be pleased in the next few days."

Jasmine Leticia Chesson and her boyfriend Quantellis Tyvon Carr, both 33, were killed inside their home at 307 Geddie Ave. on the night of Sunday, March 18. Both died from gunshot wounds to the head.

The gruesome attack sent shock waves through the town and left family members, friends and neighbors asking why the couple had been murdered. A search for the assailant or assailants began immediately and suspects were questioned, but there had been no movement in the case until recently.

Princeville Police, aided by the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office and the SBI, have been working feverishly to solve the murders. Crime Stoppers posted a  reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest(s). Since that time, the Carr and Chesson families and friends have sponsored fund-raisers to collect money to increase the reward and, as of Tuesday, it stood at $3,500.

Carr and Chesson are survived by a total of five children whose ages range from 4 to 15. None of the children were home the day of the incident.

Although law officials have identified suspects, Petway is still encouraging citizens to give information that may assist in the case.

"If anyone knows of anything involving this murder, please contact the Princeville Police Department," he asked.
