TARBORO —
Fourteen classroom teachers have been recognized as Teacher of the Year at their respective school and will now compete for the title of Edgecombe County Teacher of the Year.
A committee comprised of educators and community members will review the applications and choose no more than five finalists to participate in interviews with the committee. The Teacher of the Year will be chosen from that group and will be announced at the annual ECPS convocation in August.
Chosen as campus winners were Amanda Evans of G.W. Bulluck Elementary, Suzanne Sharpe of G.W. Carver Elementary, Leigh Ann Pope of Coker-Wimberly Elementary, Amanda Morris of W.A. Pattillo School, Gaye Norville of Princeville Elementary and Theresa Lassister of Stocks Elementary.
Also, Chad Horner of C.B. Martin, Regina Dawson of Phillips Middle, Donna Tyson of South Edgecombe Middle, Toshia Manning of West Edgecombe Middle, Mildred Manley of Edgecombe Early College High, Renee Crandol of North Edgecombe High, Joel Elliottt of SouthWest Edgecombe High and Dazzala Knight of Tarboro High.
Teachers of the Year are chosen by a group of their peers and must hold a state license, and have held one for more than three years. Teachers must also teach at least three or more hours per day, five days a week in a classroom.
The nominees will complete a nomination packet detailing their educational history and professional development, professional biography and philosophy of teaching. The nominees must also describe how they believe they can improve and strengthen their teaching skills and how they would represent ECPS if chosen to advance to the state competition.
Last year’s ECPS Teacher of the Year was Susie Davis at Stocks Elementary.
