TARBORO —
New Edgecombe County Public School superintendent John D. Farrelly will be receive a compensation package of approximately $150,000 per year under the terms of his four-year contract, which becomes effective on July 1.
Included in that package is a base of $9,948 — the maximum allocated monthly by the state to the county — a local monthly supplement of $1,667 ($20,000 annually), $500 per month car allowance to cover any and all in-county driving and mileage expenses as well as paying the full premium for family health insurance benefits under any plan approved for other professional employees of the school system.
The contract will run from July 1 until June 30, 2016.
Under the agreement, Farrelly will be required to undergo an annual physical and to provide certification from a physician that he physically fit to perform the duties of his job. If Farrelly’s health declines to the point he is unable to perform the duties of his job for a period of 90 beyond his earned time off, the board has the option to terminate the contract.
The contract also contains a clause that allows Farrelly to be “subject to discharge for good and just causes as provided by North Carolina General Statute 1ISC-274, provided, however, that the Board does not arbitrarily or capriciously call for his dismissal …”
Under that clause, Farrelly maintains the right to receive any charges in writing, a hearing before the board and 10 days’ written notice of the charges and hearing unless the board determines an emergency exists.
The board may also, at its option, unilaterally terminate the contract. In that event, Farrelly would receive approximately $11,614 per month for 12 months from the date of termination.
The agreement also allows Farrelly to resign, provided he gives the board at least 60 days written notice.

14-Under softball tryout
The Tarboro Parks and Recreation Department and Edgecombe County Girls Softball League will be having tryouts for 14-under girls fast-pitch softball Wednesday, May 29 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Farmington Park in Rocky Mount. The is located at 319 Wellington Dr. There will also be a tryout Thursday, May 30 at Indian Lake Sports Complex on field 1 in Tarboro from 6 - 7:30 p.m. There is a $10 fee for Tarboro residents and a $35 fee for non-residents. My 13 years have been lucky
It was 13 years Sunday that a drought was broken in Big Spring, Texas, After that, we ate Mexican for dinner with a gathering of family and friends.
The next day, a Saturday, Stephanie and I joined one another in marriage under a beautiful little gazebo by Comanche Trail Lake, fed by the historic spring from which the community draws its name.

Corbett/Chasse Wedding
Brittney Joyce Corbett and Kenneth Robert Chasse, Jr. were united in marriage on April 6th, 2013, at 5:30pm at the Imperial Centre in Rocky Mount. The Rev. Carrol Bradbury officiated the ceremony.

Great fondue
My husband and I love to entertain. We also love fondue. I have 4 or 5 fondue pots. I use them regularly. Some of them I have had for a long time.

Edgecombe Garden Club honors members
The Edgecombe Garden Club met May 1 for their noon luncheon at the Fountains of the Albemarle. After President Pauline Nicolosi greeted everyone, Sandra Joyner, Devotion Chairman, read “Torch” which was about our tongues torching good or evil.
Hostess Barbara Getzug described her specially designed flower arrangement of mock orange, snowball, purple columbine, and many varieties of roses. President Pauline, Hostesses Gloria Wall and Louise Fleming did the table arrangements. They contained wiegelia, azalea, ivy, mock orange, and ligustrum. - DAR AWARDS
