Two men were arrested Thursday by the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office after they discovered 54 grams of marijuana in the vehicle following a search.
Deputies received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a white van occupied by two suspects who were carrying illegal narcotics into the county. The caller told deputies the vehicle would be coming from U.S. 258 North.
When deputies responded to the area, they located the vehicle and its occupants at the intersection of Medford Road and Highway 97 near the Lawrence Community.
The driver was identified as 25-year old Richard Lynwood Pritchard, Jr., of 144 Mouth of the Creek Road, Chocowinity, while the passenger was identified as 21-year old Anthony Michael Furman, of 65 Bed Bug Point Dr., Blounts Creek.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, deputies found 54 grams of marijuana, scales and other drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Both men were arrested and charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pritchard was also charged with maintaining a vehicle for the sell and deliver of narcotics.
Both suspects were placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under $2,000 secured bond and are due in court today to answer to the charges.
