The mystery millionaire fisherman
Ever stop to think about the difference between rich, wealthy people, and average everyday rubes, like you and me? Simply put, people of means do WHAT they want WHEN they want, and go WHERE they want. They are free to pursue that which makes them happy, without the daily mundane tasks that fill most common peoples’ lives.
Who is my mystery millionaire fisherman? -
Josh Abrams, a man with a fishing future
Meet Josh Abrams. He is a 24-year old local Tarboro boy that has very ambitious fishing plans for the future. Born and raised in Edgecombe County, Josh’s playground as a young’n was the Tar River. As a young boy, he was easy to find. Just look for water that held fish, and Josh was most likely near by.

First 2012 hickory shad caught
Henry C. Knight, III, caught the winner in the 2nd Annual Tar River First Shad Contest, in Tarboro this past Sunday morning about 9 a.m. Henry Knight? Are you kidding me?
Henry winning this season’s Tar River First Shad Contest is about like Albert Einstein being a contestant on Jeopardy, and asking Alex Trebeck, in his best old-world German accent, “Alex, I vood like you should give me da physics category for $2000.” It’s a done deal, my friend. Take the money to the bank. -
Virginia State Record Rockfish Caught
Cary Wolfe, a Prince William County, Virginia angler might have caught one for the
record books last week. Fishing on the Bada Bing in the Cape Henry, VA area, Wolfe connected on a 74-pound rockfish. The 56-year old X-ray technician, who is an avid hunter and freshwater angler, fought the big striper for 15 thrilling, exciting minutes.
They call the Kentucky Derby the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. My guess is that Cary Wolfe might beg to differ with that assessment. -
Saltwater Fishing Schools
Fishing is not an exact science. However, those that depend mostly on luck don’t usually find much of it. If you want to be good at anything, you need to become a student of your desired subject. Fishing is a prime example of that. Knowledge is power, and those fishermen who seek that all important knowledge and information are far more successful than those that do not.

2012 Tar River First Shad Contest
As you read this, the Alosa mediocris are making their annual trek from the Atlantic Ocean, through the Pamlico Sound, and up the Pamlico River, which magically becomes the Tar River as it flows under the Highway 17 Bridge at Little Washington.

The Shad Are on the Way, so be ready
The fishing community in Tarboro starts to think “shad” this time of year. As you read this, the shad are hovering off the Atlantic coast making plans to chug up the freshwater coastal rivers to spawn. How they remember which river to traverse beats the stuffing out of me, but they do an exact repeat performance every year, same river, same location for all of their existence on God’s green earth. And to think, I can’t remember where I left my car keys an hour ago.

Merry FISH-mas!
I think Merry FISH-mas is an appropriate greeting for my Tight Lines readers. I mean no religious disrespect by saying that, but our weekly communication and rapport revolves around the wonderful world of fishing, so I hope it’s OK to wish you a Merry FISH-mas.

Hooks and fishing camp trip are good gifts for anglers
Buying Christmas gifts for the angler on your shopping list should be easy peasy. The nice thing is that you have so many good choices. You can make us happy with a $3 pack of hooks or a $3,000 Canadian fly-in fish camp trip. Just in case the lottery gods or some fabulously rich relative I didn’t know I had are reading this, that Canadian fly-in fish camp is on my bucket list.

Tarboro football: ‘It’s a sports dynasty’
They came, they saw, and they conquered.
Wow! What a team, and what a championship game. Three-Peat! How exciting is that! How many schools can claim that honor? Not many, we can assure you. Tarboro Vikings are true champions in every sense of the word. Winning at that level three years in a row is the result of excellent coaching, hard-working good athletes, and a very supportive fan base. Simply put, it’s a sports dynasty. - More Tight Lines Headlines
