Art exhibit: At Edgecombe County Memorial Library featuring several area black artists throughout February for Black History Month.

African American Read-In: from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Edgecombe County Memorial Library's Pender Room. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by library.

An Afternoon with Michael Cunningham: Rescheduled to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 7. Book signing and mini hat and hair fashion shows at Edgecombe Community College's Mobley Atrium, sponsored by Edgecombe County Memorial Library, funding by Furman/Mathewson Memorial Trust Fund. Space is limited; call library (823-1141) to reserve a seat.

Play: "Pretty Fire" by Charlayne Woodard, performer by the Tar River Players Friday-Saturday, March 5-6 at 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7 in McIntyre Auditorium, Edgecombe Community College. Auditions: 7 p.m. March 8-9 for Tar River Players’ production of "Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling. Six women, various ages, 18-75. McIntyre Auditorium, Edgecombe Community College. Music: Scholarship Showcase 1000. Rescheduled to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20 in Edgecombe Community College's McIntyre Auditorium. Six finalists in North Carolina Music Network's scholarship competition for $1,000 to use towards the musical goal of their choice. Contestants are Kaitlyn Flythe of Tarboro; Erin Strickland, Rocky Mount; Jamie Bryant, Williamston; Liz Holt, New Bern; Captured Hearts Trio, Emily, Jessica and Amanda King, Rich Square; and Kelly Marie Frizzelle, Ayden. Tickets $10.

Music: Second annual Beach Music and Barbecue Festival at Edgecombe Community College campus. Noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 26. Paul Craver, emcee. Holiday Band, Tommy Black and Blooz, and Legends of the Beach. Shag contest, classic cars, great pig cook-off with grand prize of $400.

Edgecombe Community College's fifth Edgecombe Performance Series: All performances will be in ECC's Keihin Auditorium.

Doc Watson: 8 p.m. Friday, March 19. Tickets: $30 and $25.

The Drifters featuring Rich Sheppard: 8 p.m. Saturday, April 17. Tickets $25 and $20.
