It’s nice to see Tarboro support the arts,” said Kathi Blackmon of Wilson.
Blackmon and her husband Dan are potters whose work is in the “Out of the Doldrums” exhibit at the Hobson Pittman Gallery of the Blount-Bridgers House,
Blackmon made her comments Thursday night while watching an overflow crowd enjoy themselves at a reception in the artists honor.
In addition to the pottery, Tina Gregory of Roanoke Rapids, Jan Volz of Red Oak and Susan Watson of Roanoke Rapids are showing their paintings.
Watson was in Washington awaiting the birth of a grandchild and missed the reception, but Gregory and Volz were on hand – as were some of their fans.
“I love all (Volz’s) work,” said Kay Evans of Red Oak. “I especially like the way she handles lighting.”
Watson, Gregory and Volz each taught art in Roanoke Rapids public schools.
Watson taught art in elementary schools, Gregory taught in middle schools and Volz in high schools.
The Blackmons, who call pottery their hobby, sold several pieces of their work. The couple holds down regular jobs. He’s a banker, and she works in the registrar’s office at Barton College.
Barton Art Department Chairwoman Susan Fecho of Tarboro recommended them to Hooks.
