FOR THE DAILY SOUTHERNER
ROCKY MOUNT —
SouthWest Edgecombe Cougar Catherine Armstrong competed in the NCHSAA indoor track state championships this past weekend. She competed in the 55-meter dash wheelchair event and the shot put.
Armstrong won two state titles for participating in the event, because she is the only participant that was competing in the girls wheelchair events. Participants are only eligible to compete in two events.
She broke her personal best record in the 55-meter dash in the wheelchair event with a final time of 17.75. In the shot-put, her final throw was 37.02.
Cougars head coach Jennifer Smith said Armstrong did a great job during the events and was pleased that she broke her personal best in the 55-meter dash wheelchair event.
"Catherine comes to practice everyday and works hard," Smith said. "She even comes to practice when we don't have school. She is a good student-athlete and does whatever she ask of her during practice or any other time."
Armstrong has won 10 state titles since she began competing in the wheelchair events.
