Lady Cougars win 12-0

TARBORO — The SouthWest Edgecombe Lady Cougars continued their dominance in the Eastern Plains Conference Tuesday as they defeated the Kinston Lady Vikings 12-0 in five innings. The Cougars improve to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They remain in second place in the conference.

SouthWest freshman pitcher Kaylan Page earned her sixth win of the season. She only allowed one hit and walked one, while striking out nine.

The Cougars were led offensively by Kelsey Page who went 2-3 with two Rbi and scored two runs. Chelsea Owens hit a double and had an Rbi, while Kaylan Page hit a triple and two Rbi. Jennifer Britt had a hit with two Rbi and Montana York had a hit with an Rbi.

SouthWest had two big innings. They scored three runs in the third and six runs in the fourth to help seal the win by the 10-run mercy rule.

"This was a good team win with everyone on the team making contributions," Cougars head coach Jeff Gould said. "Once again we played error free ball behind Kaylan who pitched a great game for us."

SouthWest will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Greenville to Sara Law Softball Complex to play in the D.H. Conley Easter tournament. The Cougars play South Central at 5 p.m. and then will resume action in the tournament Monday at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. when they play Midway and Southside.
