SWE golf team is perfect heading into regionals

TARBORO — The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars golf team won the Eastern Plains Conference title Monday after shooting 305 as a team at Cutter Creek Country Club. Farmville Central finished in second with a 317 score.

The Cougars finished the year in the conference standings at 1510. Farmville Central was at 1651, while Beddingfield was third with 1770 and Greene Central at 402.

The Cougars top five players have a combined record of 45-0. SouthWest hasn't lost a match this season.

Rob Warren shot a career low 69 on the course and was the medalist. Freshman Cole Jefferys shot a 73.

Cougars Nathan Webb was named the conference Player of the Year.

Warren, Jefferys, Eric Norville and Taylor Newton were also named to the all-conference team.

Michael Proctor was an honorable mention.

SouthWest will be back in action Monday when they travel to White Lake to play at Carolina Sands in the Eastern Regional tournament.

The top three teams in the regionals will advance to the state championship.
