The Tarboro Vikings tennis team pulled off an impressive victory Wednesday against the Greene Central Rams. Both teams were playing for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Plains Conference going into the NCHSAA 2-A state playoffs. The Vikings defeated the Rams 7-2.
Tarboro will host the first round of the playoffs Tuesday at 4 p.m. against a wild card opponent. The opponent had not been announced by press time.
It took Tarboro's No. 1 seed Lane Long three sets to defeat his opponent Robert Taylor. Long won 4-6, 6-4 and 1-0. No. 2 seed Robbie Collins also took three sets to defeat his opponent Quentin Thigpen, 5-7, 6-2 and 1-0.
The only matches the Vikings lost were the No . 4 seed singles where Justin LaDuke was defeated 6-4 and 6-3 and they lost in the No. 3 seed doubles. Paul Nguyen and Cole McIntyre were defeated by Layne Carraway and Alex Gilbert 8-1.
