Softball

The SouthWest Edge-combe Cougars softball team defeated Hertford County in a double header 15-0 and 13-0 Wednesday. Kelsey Page was the winning picture in game one and Kayla Hinton won the second game.

In game two Collen Stallings and Jessica Randolph each hit homeruns.

Baseball

Hertford County 9 Cougars 0

The SouthWest Edge-combe Cougars baseball team was defeated by Hertford County 9-0 Wednesday. Adam Hyman and Javon Brown was the only Cougars to record hits in the game.

Golf



SWE

SouthWest Edgecombe scored 357 and came in second place in a three team tournament at Southern Wayne Wednesday. Host Southern Wayne earned first place with 343 and Spring Creek finished third.



Vikings

Scott Norville led the Tarboro Vikings golfers to a victory over Rocky Mount and Northside Wednesday at Cotton Valley Golf Course. The Vikings posted a team score of 335. Rocky Mount finished second with 343 and Northside 391.

Norville shot 77 and was the medalist of the tournament. Other Vikings scores were Scott Johnson 84, Brandon Madry 85, Alex Flint 89, Will Gammons 92, and William Robinson 93.



Tennis

The Tarboro dropped their second match of the season to Southern Nash 9-0, Wednesday at home. Southern Nash also handed the Vikings (1-0) their first loss of the season.

"Southern Nash is one of the top 3A teams in the state, coming off consecutive trips to the State Championship," said Vikings Coach Billy Strother. "We fought it out with them for over three ours. That competition and experience will benefit us later in the season."

    The students of Cunnningham Isshinryu Karate represented Tarboro and Edgecombe County well on Saturday, April 28th at the 14th Annual ECU Open Martial Arts Tournament. The tournament was held at the ECU Student Recreation Center and is one of the area’s largest martial arts events. It is open to all martial arts styles and systems. This year, more than 75 martial artists competed for medals.

    All three inductees were very dedicated to the Cougars athletic program and felt very honored to be inducted into the SouthWest Hall of Fame.
