TARBORO —
The C.B. Martin Middle Vikings cross country team showed that hard work does pay off. Throughout the season the team has competed in meets throughout the Tri-Counties, in Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson.
The biggest meet during the season has been the county rivalry meet against the county middle schools. Both Vikings boys and girls teams finished in first place during the meet.
The No. 1 girls runner was Kaylyn Norville. She finished with a two mile time of 16:30. She is one of the top female runners at the school and has for the Vikings for two seasons.
Next week Martin will carry their top five boys and girls runners to compete in the Tri-County championship meet.
The top five boys runners for the Vikings are Dawson Davis, Alejandro Garcia, Justin Pender, Jaquarious Boyd and Daniel Guevara. The girls runners are Norville, Peyton Crowe, Jilianna Leary, Kaylee Butler and Mariana Uran.
Before every race Martin's coach Tiffany Boston tells all her runners a quote by famous New York cross country coach Joe Newton. "However fast you are running, run faster." She said it has become a motto for all runners at Martin.
She hopes that the motto will not only inspire overachieving success on the course, but also in the classroom and in all that they do.
