Heritage Hospital Pastoral Counselors enhance skills
Pastoral caregivers that support Heritage Hospital have just recently completed the Pastoral Care in Community (PCC) program offered as a collaborative program of the Duke Divinity School and The Duke Endowment.
Representing Heritage Hospital were Joseph Andrews, Stanley Buck and Edward Conner. The formal program began Oct. 6 and ended on May 11 with a closing ceremony on June 5 at Goodson Chapel at the Duke Divinity School at Duke University in Durham.
Completion of the program satisfied requirements for membership in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors as a Pastoral Care Specialist.
Other pastors from the Tarboro community that participated were Melissa Acres, Kelly Andrews, Larry Ayscue, Queen Batts, Mary Chatt, Betty Daniel, Mark Dickens, Peggy Rodgers Leggett, Shirley McFarlin, Franchine Philpot Pena and Chris Williams.
Other participating hospitals in the program included Ashe Memorial Hospital, Granville Health System and Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The Pastoral Care in Community program equips rural ministers to better serve their communities through training in pastoral care and integrative formation. The program consisted of 64 credit hours of classroom time, spread out over an eight-month period, along with a volunteer chaplaincy component.
