4-H competition worthy of support from community

TARBORO — We know many members of the community — individual and business alike — support the annual Edgecombe County 4-H Livestock Show financially, but for those who cannot afford to do that, there are other ways to show support.

For instance, taking the time to drive out to Kingsboro Road to the East Carolina Agriculture and Education Center and get in the bleachers to support the young men and women who will someday lead our communities.

Oftentimes, 4-H is a family project with everyone involved — especially when the family has an agricultural background or is involved in agribusiness.

One never knows what to expect when a youngster brings their animal into the show ring, although more times than not, by the time they reach the show ring they are more like family — or at least a pet, that a 2,000 pound bull.

But there’s nothing like watching a youngster lead their animal — whether it’s a youngster getting frustrated with a lamb that’s going to do it’s own thing or the biggest, baddest, meanest looking bull on the block that follows little Suzie like it’s a six-month-old puppy.

The final day’s activities get under way early Wednesday ... take time during your day to go support our youngsters who are doing something worthwhile with their lives and not running up and down the streets.
