• Officials of VIDANT EDGECOMBE HOSPITAL, on the occasion of breaking ground for its $4.8 million Emergency Department expansion. The project, which will expand the department’s capacity to about 28,000 patients annually, is expected to take some nine months to complete.

• WILLIE BAKER, an employee in the dietary department at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital on being named a “Hero” for utilizing the Heimlich maneuver to save the life of a person eating in the hospitl cafeteria.

• EDGECOMBE COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE, on raising a total of $197,498.66 to help fund the fight against cancer.
