TARBORO — Action in Tarboro’s 19th Annual Easter Classic Baseball Tournament got under way Tuesday night with the Home Run Derby, which drew a crowd of between 200 and 300 fans.

But it was on Wednesday, when the opening schedule of four games unfolded, that the tournament really got going.

In addition to host Tarboro, other teams in the tournament include first-time entrants from Padua, Ohio and Bunn and previous entrants SouthWest Edgecombe, St. Maria Goretti of Hagerstown, Md., Winslow Township, NJ, Jefferson Forest of Forest, Va., and Lawrence Academy from Merry Hill.

We all know about the great food at Municipal Stadium and we all know about the great baseball, but let’s all be aware of our visitors to our community and serve up an extra big helping of Southern hospitality.

And while we know you will, let’s practice the Golden Rule with our baseball friends and welcome them to our community and make them feel at home.
