I found Mr. Harry Ballard's letter in the Wednesday paper about Tarboro's lack of places to eat very interesting, especially the oversights. He neglected to mention four of my favorites:
1. On the Square. People come from out-of-town to eat here. You need to make reservation for dinner. Perhaps Mr. Ballard doesn't eat out at night, or perhaps he doesn't drink wine. 2. Mama's. Perhaps Mr. Ballard doesn't like Italian food. 3. Main Street Café. Now that it is owned by locals (Evelyn Barnette West and Gloria Wooding) we won't have the problem of out-of-towners or short-term residents closing up shop and moving on. Evelyn, Gloria and the Café are here to stay. The sandwiches are made to order and Gloria's homemade soups are to die for. I am particularly fond of the broccoli and cheese and also the potato. There are homemade muffins. If you are downtown and are in need of breakfast or a snack. They also cater. 4. Lin's Super Buffet. Hot, delicious and out of this world! Perhaps Mr. Ballard doesn't like Chinese.
And don't forget Waffle House for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We have places to eat. What we need to do is support them. Eat out often. I do, at least once a week.
