NORA H. LEWIS BROWN

Nora H. Lewis Brown, 90, of Rocky Mount, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009.

She was born Dec. 21, 1918 in Edgecombe County.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Johnson's Chapel with the Rev. D.C. Coppedge Jr. and the Rev. William Earl Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, and other times at the home of Henry and Dianne Lewis at 1658 Rolling Acres Drive in Nashville.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. Hathaway and Clara P. Hathaway; two sons, Benjamin Lee Lewis and Glen Ervin Lewis; husbands, Thurman Gray Lewis Sr., Edward Brown and Ruben Brown; three sisters, Lena Saunders, Mavis Hathaway, and Lina Bulluck; and four brothers, James "Buster" Hathaway, Henry Hathaway, Edward Hathaway and Lloyd Hathaway.

Mrs. Brown leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Thurman Gray Lewis Jr. and wife Sue, and Henry Lewis and wife Dianne, all of Nashville; three daughters, Pearl L. Joyner and husband Albert of Plymouth, Virginia L. Wood and husband Clint, Barbara Collier and her late husband Tommy Collier, both of Whitakers; one step-daughter, Judy B. Gardner and husband William Garner of Enfield; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Lewis and Mable Lewis, both of Pinetops; one brother, Joseph "Jody" Hathaway of Pinetops; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Brown loved her church, Fellowship of Praise Church of God on N.C. 43 with Dr. D.C. Coppedge Jr. as pastor. She attended as long as she was able and enjoyed helping clean and cook in the church. Mrs. Brown was also known for her love of flowers.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. Thanks to Brekenridge Assisted Living Home Staff for the loving care that they gave to her with her stay there.
