WILLIAM A. ‘BILL’ SAVAGE

TARBORO — William A. "Bill" Savage, 88, a life-long resident of Tarboro, beloved husband of 26 years to Katie (Denton) Savage of Tarboro, went home to his loving God peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, raised and educated in Edgecombe County, a son of the late Eli A. and Gertrude (Williamson) Savage.

He was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army Air Corps’ 33rd Fighter Control Squadron, 5th Air Force, serving in New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Philippines. He was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with a Bronze Star, and the Army Good Conduct Medal, among others. He was an active member and leader of Tarboro VFW chapter 9850.

He was employed at Carolina Enterprises for many years as a model maker and machinist before retiring. He was also employed at Consolidated Diesel of Whitakers before dedicating himself to his favorite pastimes of fishing and hunting.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves his son, Bruce A. Savage of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; his stepdaughter, Margie Adams of Battleboro, N.C.; stepsons, 1st Sgt. (Ret.) Horace Barnes and his wife Barbara Ann of Zebulon, N.C., and CSM (Ret.) Willie Barnes and his wife Laurie of Radcliff, Ky.; his sister, Rachael Braswell of Tarboro; his brothers, Allen (Junior) of Clearwater, Fla.; Cecil of Goldsboro, N.C.;, along with numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his wife Pauline (Harrell) Savage, his son Wayne, his sister Sue, and his brother, LeRoy (Pete).

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, at the New Grace Baptist Church, located at 1213 Newsome Street (off Hope Farm Road) in Tarboro. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the funeral services at 12 Noon. Internment with military honors will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in his name be made to United Hospice, 301 S. Church Street, Suite 122, Rocky Mount, 27804.

    BELVOIR — Mrs. Mattie Ruth Bullock, 81, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel.  Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.
    Mrs. Bullock, a native of Wilson County and a lifelong resident of Pitt County, was a graduate of Belvoir-Falkland High School.  She was engaged in farming with her husband until 1989 and was a charter member of Belvoir Free Will Baptist Church.
