CONETOE — Matt Mayo Whitfield, 84, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at Carlisle Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Hendricks and the Rev. Lloyd Edge officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Bethel, N.C.
Mrs. Whitfield was preceded in death by a son, John Wesley Whitfield, Jr., and brothers James A. Mayo, Sr. and William Ed Mayo.
Matt had a great love for animals.
She is survived by a loving family, including her husband of 62 years, John Wesley Whitfield; daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Whitfield and friend Antonio Garcia of Conetoe; grandsons, Matthew Wesley McLawhorn and wife Wendy of Conetoe, Jason Whitfield McLawhorn and partner Jeremy A. Carter of Charlotte, great-grandchildren, Marshall Jameson McLawhorn, Madeline Gray McLawhorn; special sister-in-law, Martha Mayo of Conetoe; several nieces and nephews; former sons-in-laws, Gary G. McLawhorn of Greenville, James A. Woods III of Greenville; a special friend, Callie, and three devoted care givers, Connie Rogers, Kathy Wilson and Debbie Morris.
