TARBORO —
PINETOPS — The Rev. George F. Burdette, 82, passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Webb’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Ellis, the Rev. Dennis Harrell and the Rev. James Cale officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
Rev. Burdette served as Pastor of Webb’s Chapel Baptist Church for 18 years and at Pender’s Chapel for four years. Before serving at Webb’s Chapel Baptist Church he served at several churches in South Carolina.
George is preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Dale Burdette.
He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 63 Years, Dorothy Evelyn Burdette; sons, Timothy F. Burdette and wife Patricia of Pinetops, Terry Dale Burdette and wife Nancy of Youngsville; sisters, Sue Collins and husband Jack of Westminister, S.C., Louise Pelfrey and husband Gene of Westminister, S.C.
Frances Davis of Westminister, S.C.; brothers, W.C. Burdette and wife Christine of Westminister, S.C., Raeford Burdette and wife Nancy of Westminister, S.C.; grandchildren, Jessica Burdette and Michelle Burdette, and three great-grandchildren.
The family received friends and relatives at Webb’s Chapel Baptist Church Tuesday night.

It breaks my heart to look at the puppies and kittens at the Tarboro Animal Shelter pictured in Monday’s editions of the Daily Southerner. June is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and I pray these fur babies will find a good forever home. Bucking a statewide and national trend, the kittens have a better chance of getting adopted than the puppies. Why? -
