William ‘Bill’ Vernon Windley

TARBORO — Pastor William “Bill” Vernon Windley, 82, died Monday, July 23, 2012.

Funeral Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park

Bill served in the US Army for six years and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in Korea. He was a chaplain at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, a member of the NC Retired Government Employees Association, past president of Government Purchasing Association for NC/SC, past president of the Tarboro Lions Club and Tarboro Jaycees. He was a member of Woodman of The World, Lodge 115 Tarboro, where he served as past president and field representative and later retired. Mr. Windley also retired from the Town of Tarboro and City of Rocky Mount as purchasing director. He was founder and pastor of Gospel Fellowship Church in Tarboro.

Mr. Windley was born May 25, 1930 in Beaufort County to the late Daniel and Matilda Windley. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bonnie and Robert Windley. Sisters, Elsi Waters and Ethel Sullivan.

He is survived by a loving family, including his wife of 61 years, Sara Boyd Windley; a daughter, Terrie Gallinoto and husband, Andrew “Butch” Gallinoto, of Tarboro; granddaughter: Jessica Nelson of Tarboro; grandsons: Andrew Gallinoto, Jr. of Greenville and Brad Gallinoto of Greenville; great-grandchildren: Caleb Nelson, Chrislyn Moss and Addisyn Parrisher; a brother, Ben Windley of Tarboro and sisters: Alva Dean Alligood of Plymouth and Nancy Modlin of Jamesville.
