TARBORO — Rose Gallagher, 76, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Episcopal Church.
Rose was born January 1, 1937 in Auburn, Illinois. She and her family moved several times from Illinois to Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
About 20 years ago Rose and her mom, Margaret, moved to Tarboro, where Rose died.
In Tarboro, Rose found both mission and community. Rose worked among the Hispanic migrants of Edgecombe County as their friend and strong advocate.
Rose found a strong faith community at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro. She was a beloved and respected member of the parish and worked tirelessly to expand their ministry to the neediest in the county.
Rose studied her entire life and had a fiercely inquiring mind. In May 2010 she completed the Program of Education for Ministry at the University of the South School of Theology. Her blend of intelligent inquiry and compassion made her a leader in her parish.
She is survived by a brother, a sister, niece and nephew, grand nephew and her granddaughter, Rosalba.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Clark Hall at Calvary Episcopal Church.

It breaks my heart to look at the puppies and kittens at the Tarboro Animal Shelter pictured in Monday’s editions of the Daily Southerner. June is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and I pray these fur babies will find a good forever home. Bucking a statewide and national trend, the kittens have a better chance of getting adopted than the puppies. Why? -
