TARBORO — Peggy Jean Grady Ellis, of Tarboro, went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2013. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 22, in the James McRae Grady Cemetery, Albertson, North Carolina.
Born in Kinston on January 26, 1936, she was the daughter of John David and Ruth Outlaw Grady. A native of Albertson, North Carolina, she graduated from B.F. Grady High School and went on to complete her degree in Home Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Woman’s College). Following graduation, she worked as a North Carolina Extension Agent in Wilson County. She taught and was a supervisor with the Wilson and Edgecombe County School Systems.
Peggy was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandsons were her joy. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, J.B. Ellis; daughters, DeAnna Ruth Ellis; Dr. Johnica Ellis-Kiser, and husband, J. Scott Kiser; grandsons, Payden Barnes Ellis Kiser and Jeffrey McRae Grady Kiser, all of Tarboro, North Carolina. Peggy is also survived by her sister, Mary Anna Grady, of Albertson; sister-in-law, Glennie Ellis Bogue, and husband, Thomas Bogue of Saratoga, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; her brother, John D. Grady, Jr. and sister-in-law, Dorothy Howard Grady, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; and a sister, Amelia Grady Snelling and brother-in-law, Rollins Campbell Snelling, of Amelia Island, Florida.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

It breaks my heart to look at the puppies and kittens at the Tarboro Animal Shelter pictured in Monday’s editions of the Daily Southerner. June is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and I pray these fur babies will find a good forever home. Bucking a statewide and national trend, the kittens have a better chance of getting adopted than the puppies. Why? -
