NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Shirley Heath Stith, 65, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Tarboro, N.C., she was a peninsula resident for more than 40 years.
Shirley retired from the banking industry having held the positions of teller, loan officer and bank manager with First American Bank. She was a member of Ivy Baptist Church where she served as Clerk and Trustee. She participated yearly with preparation of Christmas Baskets for families in need. She worked with the Board of Elections helping in her local voting precinct.
Shirley’s survivors include her husband of 43 years, Norman Stith, Jr.; two sons, Tori Stith and his wife, Desiree and Norman Travis Stith; five sisters, Helen Winstead, Barbara Brown, Jessie Lyons, Deborah Zimmerman and Sharon Jackson; two brothers, William Earl Heath and Dennis Jerome Heath and two grandchildren, Tiara and ZaCari.
Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and extended family, including a sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Stith; special aunts, Marie Stith and Emma Bryant; and a special cousin, Edna Bazemore.
The family will receive friends, Friday, January 11, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m. at Ivy Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Swann officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Veteran’s Memorial Gardens.
