DAVID JASPER GARDNER

TARBORO — MACCLESFIELD — David Jasper Gardner, 91, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Pinetops Baptist Church with the Rev. John Melancon officiating. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.

David was a veteran of World War II, having served  in the European Theater with the U.S. Army 513th Engineer Co. He was the owner of B-K Sales & Service, a Frigidaire dealership. David was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and active member in the Pinetops Baptist Church and an active member in the St. Lewis Ruritan Club.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving family, including: his wife of 65 years, Madeline Harrell Gardner; two daughters, Velda Gardner Williford, and husband, John, Jr., of Rocky Mount and Ramona Gardner Horton, and husband, Wallace, Jr., of Mount Olive; a son, David Jasper Gardner, Jr., and wife, Angela, of Macclesfield, seven grandchildren: Abigail Kocher, and husband, Craig, or Richmond, Va., Rebecca Williford, of Berkeley, Calif., Dana Hughling, and husband, Dave, of Fort Worth, Texas, Tim Horton, and wife, Kate, of Apex, Leah Groff, and husband, Todd, of Raleigh, April Phillips, and husband, Brian, of Pinetops and Nicole Gardner, of Macclesfield and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, January 18, from 6:30-8:30 pm at Carlisle Funeral Home.

    It breaks my heart to look at the puppies and kittens at the Tarboro Animal Shelter pictured in Monday’s editions of the Daily Southerner.  June is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and I pray these fur babies will find a good forever home.  Bucking a statewide and national trend, the kittens have a better chance of getting adopted than the puppies.  Why?
