Woman's body found in Halifax

SCOTLAND NECK – The remains of a woman reported missing in 2006 were found Thursday afternoon in Scotland Neck.

A Greenville medical examiner determined that the remains are that of Christine Marie Boone, 43, according to Halifax County Sheriff's deputies.

The remains were found in a wooded area behind a mobile home where Antwan Maurice Pittman once lived.

Pittman, 31, is currently being held at the Edgecombe County jail, where he has been since September when he was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Taraha Shenice Nicholson, 28, by strangulation.

Nicholson's remains were found in a wooded area off of Marriott Road between Rocky Mount and Whitakers.

Pittman has been charged with the killing of one woman found dead in the area where Boone's body was found.

Nicholson's death is one of six homicides that date back to 2005 with Boone being the seventh victim.

All of the women were black and had a history of drug abuse or prostitution.

The remains of Jarniece Latonya "Sunshine" Hargrove, 31, Ernestine Battle, 50, Jackie Nikelia Thorpe, 35, and Melody Wiggins, 29, have been recovered.

Yolanda "Snap" Lancaster, 37, and Joyce Renee Durham, 46, are still missing.

Last year, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office and the Rocky Mount Police Department formed a task force with the State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the deaths.

Anyone with any information pertaining to Boone's death should contact Halifax County Sheriff Jeff Frazier at 252-583-8201, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office at 641-7911 or the Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
