Booze It & Lose It campaign begins
As the Governor's Highway Safety Program's Booze It & Lose It holiday campaign gets underway today, Tarboro police are satisfied with the Thanksgiving campaign's results.
Booze It & Lose It, which focuses on citing and taking intoxicated drivers off the roadways over the holidays, lasts from today through Jan. 3. The latest campaign, called No Need 2 Speed, ended its two-week run on Sunday, focusing on keeping motorists observing the speed limit on the roadways over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Tarboro Police Sgt. Bob Cox, the Governor's Highway Safety Program's Law Enforcement Liaison for Region 4, said that the 255 speeding tickets given out to motorists from Nov. 16-29 was "a lot" for Edgecombe County over that time.
But he is more satisfied with the 24 driving while intoxicated citations written over the two week period, getting that many intoxicated drivers off Edgecombe County roads. "That's real good, terrific. I'm more pleased with that than" with the other results from the No Need 2 Speed campaign, Cox added.
There were also 76 driving with license revoked citations given, 55 vehicle restraint violations, 17 uninsured violations and 15 reckless driving citations made over No Need 2 Speed.
Statewide, there were 83,118 citations given to motorists over the campaign. That included 31,760 speeding tickets.
