DJ helps provide extra food for Thanksgiving
A Tarboro radio disc jockey enlisted the help of motorcycle and social clubs to help give area families some extra food for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Kevin Williams, aka DJ Starrchild on 92.1 FM Soul 92 Jams and Old School AM 1390, helped gather 25 turkeys and 10 hens to give to those in need within the radio stations' listening areas, including Edgecombe, Nash, Wilson, Pitt and Halifax counties.
The 38-year-old DJ was able to coordinate the meat handouts, which took place today, with several motorcycle and social clubs within the area. He added that the South East Bikers Association, the De'Fel Social Club and The Country Boys out of Nashville were particularly helpful in getting the meats out to the families.
Seven of the birds are going to families "in real need" in each of the five counties for Thanksgiving, he added. "The hardest things for people to get are the meats" for their Thanksgiving meal when they are in need, Williams said.
The turkeys were donated by the Piggly Wiggly on North Raleigh Street in Rocky Mount, with The Country Boys providing the 10 hens.
