Police: Student brought box cutter to school
A Tarboro High School student faces two misdemeanor charges, after police said he brought a box cutter onto the school campus Thursday.
Ladarius Maliek Lawrence, 16, of Martin Drive in Tarboro, was charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and having a weapon school grounds.
Tarboro Patrolman Ryan Jordan said the incident was reported at 10:02 a.m. Thursday while he worked security at the school. He said that Lawrence allegedly showed another student a silver box cutter on school grounds during an argument.
Jordan added that Lawrence apparently did not expose the blade of the box cutter during the incident, nor did he “attempt to go toward” the student with the cutter. The patrolman said Lawrence would get a 10-day suspension from school, with a longer suspension being recommended.
Lawrence was released to his parents’ custody, as his next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 9.
