Tarboro Police recovered three stolen rifles that were taken from a vehicle sometime Tuesday night.
James Elliott Lewis, 29, of 700 W. St. James St., Apt. B in Tarboro, was charged with three felony counts of larceny of a firearm, three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny.
Tarboro Police said they received the call about the stolen guns at 7:32 a.m. Wednesday, after the victim had left them in his unlocked SUV on Saint Andrew Street overnight. All three of them were Remington rifles outfitted with scopes, all together valued at $3,100. A Sony camcorder valued at $400 was also reported stolen from the vehicle, but police said they have not recovered it.
Elliott is being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.
