TARBORO —
The Fountains at The Albemarle’s annual spring card sale is right around the corner.
More than 200 greeting cards for all occasions, handmade by local crafters, will be available for purchase for $2.50 each between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Monday, May 7 in the auditorium at the Fountains. All proceeds will benefit Watermark for Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering kids to fully express themselves and thrive.
In the past, funds have been made available to allow Macclesfield resident Catherine Armstrong to purchase a racing wheelchair.
Resident Mary Smoot spent three months creating the cards during the “Creative Card Making” class offered on-site through Watermark University. She said card making gives her personal satisfaction and allows her to become active in her community in a creative way.
“It’s my favorite activity and the one that keeps me going,” Smoot said. “I like the beauty that comes from it and I like to try something new that involves arts and craft. I certainly enjoy working to help the children and to be able to sell cards for their benefit.”
Those who participated in the class manufactured cards made out of card stock paper, stamps and a variety of special designs.
The sale is open to the public.
