Third arrest made in break-in

TARBORO — The Tarboro Police Department detectives division made a third arrest Friday in a case that happened on East Battle Avenue where three suspects broke into a residence and stole over $3,000 worth of merchandise.

On Friday, detectives arrested Joseph Ja'Kwan Washington, 20, of 402 Holly Court, Tarboro and charged him with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. He was given a $10,000 unsecured bond.

According to reports, the residence that the  suspects broke into had four things stolen. The items that the suspects stole were a Chicago 120 volt heat gun valued at $50, Harbor air horns valued at $150, a pair of Ramrod cowboy boots valued at $100 and some optical and camera equipment which was valued at $200. All of the items have been recovered except for the optical equipment.

Also arrested in the case was Christopher Cass Cannon, 19, of 416 Wayne Ave. and Tyler Courtland Lewis, 17, of 503 Davis Dr. both of Tarboro and they were also charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. They were given $10,000 unsecured bonds.

Lewis also confessed to detectives that he had stolen a golf cart from the same residence in June 2011, which was valued at $2,800.

    After hitting $3.479 on Friday, prices fell another two cents per gallon Saturday at Wilco/Hess at Main and Granville in downtown and at Murphy Gas on US 258 South. By Sunday, that price had spread to at least four other outlets in town.

    It's been 25 years since Roy John Rieck was found, brutally murdered, at Tarboro's Pizza Hut. Rieck, 47, was apparently closing the establishment for the night when he was stabbed at least 20 times. He was found lying in a puddle of blood at 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 31, 1987.
