TARBORO —
Work on the new Tarboro-Princeville bridge is almost complete and work on the roundabout continues.
The bridge is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 15 when motorists will have a detour for 30 days while the roundabout is built and the old bridge will be demolished.
The entire $7.6 million state Department of Transportation project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 15.
Part of Main Street (N.C. 33) was closed Thursday as workers began taking out old curb and gutter for widening of the roadway.
The Quigless Health Center, Thorne Realty, Trade-Wilco gas station and convenience store will remain accessible by car, said DOT resident engineer Steve Joyner, who is in charge of the project.
New paving and curb and gutter has been completed on the Princeville side.
