Instead of cooking and sitting down to a meal at home Thursday, Communities in Schools is encouraging everyone to eat at a participating restaurant to benefit schools.
For the 14th year, Dine-Out for Communities in Schools is being hosted, which allows 10 percent of your bill at a participating restaurant to benefit students in the community.
“Communities in Schools is an organization that helps at-risk kids graduate from high school, then offers them scholarships to continue their education at a two-year, four-year or trade school,” said Pam Larimer of CIS.
Larimer said an average of $15,000 is raised each year during the event.
The only participating restaurant in Tarboro that is participating is Pizza Hut. There are six restaurants in Nashville participating and 45 participating restaurants in Rocky Mount.
Larimer said that despite the difference in participation between the three different locations, the event does benefit students in both Nash and Edgecombe counties.
“We are very appreciative of all the support we do get,” she said.
