Still looking for work?
The Rocky Mount Census Office is still seeking Census workers to help with this year's Census.
"Census jobs are a great opportunity for thousands of North Carolinians who are looking for work," said N.C. Gov. Bev Purdue. "At the same time, these workers will help our state achieve a complete count of our population and access the more than $400 billion in federal funds to be distributed each year based on the census count."
The Rocky Mount office covers Edgecombe, Nash, Martin, Wilson, Halifax, Gates, Northampton, Pasquotank, Chowan, Currituck, Bertie, Tyrrell, Washington, Camden, Perquimans, Hertford and Wayne counties.
There are Census-taker positions available for the area covered by the Rocky Mount office.
Census jobs are temporary but last throughout the Census process.
To qualify for employment, individuals must be able to read, write and speak English, be a U.S. citizen, be a legal permanent resident, be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, pass a written test of basic skills, pass a background check and commit to four days of paid training.
The training times vary, being held during the day, evenings and weekends. Census takers in Edgecombe County can start at $11 per hour.
Census workers will work in their own counties and are reimbursed for authorized work expenses.
