TARBORO — • EDGECOMBE COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPIANS and VOLUNTEERS, who helped make Thursday’s SPECIAL OLYMPICS at SouthWest Edgecombe High School special to the all of the athletes.

• JOHN FARRELLY, who was named as the new superintendent of schools for the Edgecombe County Public Schools. Farrelly, his wife Rena and infant son Jack will be relocating from Plymouth in time for his July 1 starting date.

• EDGECOMBE COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE ORGANIZERS, who outdid themselves Tuesday with the annual SURVIVOR’S BANQUET. Guest speaker JOHN MITCHELL delivered a message that hit home with everyone in attendance, that being that we can all do something to make the lives of others better.

• NORTHEAST EDGECOMBE JROTC, on visiting our nation’s capitol and placing a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknowns.

• SOUTHWEST EDGECOMBE HIGH SCHOOL’S AIR FORCE JROTC, on its participation in the Edgecombe County Special Olympics. SWE’s AFJROTC participated through its Color Guard as well as through the corps’ well-known cadre of clowns.
