TARBORO —
Edgecombe County’s new superintendent of schools could be announced at a special called meeting of the county school board at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will be held in the district’s central office board room.
The position was vacated when Dr. Wayne Talley resigned Sept. 30, 2011 because of health concerns. Since that time, Del Burns has served as interim superintendent and is on a month-to-month contract renewal.
Board chairperson Ann Kent said following the board’s last regularly scheduled meeting, “I think we felt very good after the first-round of interviews. We interviewed all the candidates. We had a big number. We narrowed it and now we are down to a smaller number. We kind of hope we might know something very soon.”
There were 23 applicants for the post.
