Drug dealer arrested six times in two years

15 charges pending against Daniels

TARBORO — On Wednesday, a known drug dealer was arrested for the second time in two weeks for selling cocaine, making 15 drug charges pending against him in the local court system.

William Earl Daniels, 42, of 206 Ainsley Circle, Tarboro was arrested by the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Tarboro Police Department for the second time in as many weeks.  He was charged with maintaining a dwelling to store controlled substances, maintaing a vehicle to store controlled substances and felony deliver cocaine. He was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $265,000 secured bond.

Since his first arrest, Daniels had made a $75,000 bond before being arrested for selling cocaine in front of law enforcement after they had set up surveillance and observed the suspect make drug transactions.

According to officials, law enforcement put a joint operation together after receiving complaints that drugs were being sold at Apartment 6 in Riverview Court on St. Andrew Street. After setting up, they saw Daniels parked in front of the residence. While doing surveillance, they observed heavy traffic coming and going from the apartment.

According to officers, the people that were visiting the residence were known drug users and have a have a history of narcotics use.

Officers saw Daniels leave the apartment in his vehicle and, as they tried to apprehend him, he attempted to elude officers. Instead, he was stopped and detained by Vidant Edgecombe Hospital Police as he entered that property. Officers seized and impounded Daniels’ vehicle and also executed a search of Daniels’ residence, where they found crack cocaine, drug processing materials and signs of drug use.

Two weeks ago, during a drug round-up, officers charged Daniels with possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony sell cocaine and felony possession of cocaine after he sold drugs to an undercover officer. He was jailed under a $75,000 secured bond.

According to court records, Daniels has been arrested six times over the past two years for drug possession and selling to undercover officers. He has 14 felonies and one misdemeanor charge pending against him.

“It means a lot to me and our department to get guys like this off of the streets,” Sheriff James Knight said. “It means a great deal to law enforcement to get the dealers off of the streets, especially the ones we know that aren’t going stop selling the drugs.”

According to law enforcement, Daniels has been in possession of over 2 ounces of cocaine during three of his arrests.

According to reports, on a separate arrest Daniels and a co-defendant were charged with being in possession of an ounce of cocaine. The co-defendant took the blame for the drugs and charges against Daniels were subsequently dismissed by the courts.

Daniels currently has four possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, four felony possession of cocaine, three felony sell and deliver cocaine, three maintaining a vehicle/dwelling to store controlled substances and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge pending against him.

Daniels has been convicted of three felonies and a misdemeanor which stem from drug sales. He first conviction was in 1997 for possession of schedule II and in a separate case he was convicted of possession with the intent to sell and deliver schedule II. In 2001, he plea bargained a separate set of drug charges down to a misdemeanor of maintaining any place to store controlled substances and in 2005, he was convicted for possession with the intent to sell and deliver schedule II.

Out of the four convictions, Daniels has served only 18 months behind bars. He was sentenced to probation for two of the convictions.

He has been arrested in every round-up that Edgecombe County law enforcement has conducted, except one, over the past two years.

Knight said he wanted to thank the citizens for their concern about the criminal activity in their community as well as the Tarboro Police Department for its cooperation with the investigation.

  • Woman faces 32 charges

    A Tarboro woman's scam has led authorities to arrest her on 28 charges.
    According to a Tarboro Police Department report, Jennifer Ann Carr, 29, 1609 Barlow Rd. Apt. 9, took out loans in the names of 16 customers of a local business from January through April. Carr was employed through a temp agency with a local business, said Tarboro Police Sgt. Al Braxton. Braxton said the total loan amount netted $4,300.  
    Carr was charged with 16 counts of identity theft and 16 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. She was place in Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
