PRINCEVILLE — The Princeville Police Department is searching for a suspect who shot a Rocky Mount man Saturday at a party.
According to Princeville Police Chief Joey Petway, 19-year-old Demontel Battle of Rocky Mount, was shot in his back at the Indigo Lounge on Greenwood Boulevard around 10 p.m. Saturday. Battle was treated at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro. Petway said he has since been released.
Petway did not release detailed information concerning, citing an ongoing investigation.
"We do not have a suspect at this time, but we're following up on leads," Petway said.
Petway said calls from concerned citizens who heard gunshots, allowed his department to respond to the scene in a timely manner. However, when officers arrived, the suspect had fled.
"We were able to arrive and disburse the crowd and prevent anything else from happening," Petway said. "We talked to the victim and he is not cooperating with this investigation. He is hindering our investigation. We are talking to the owner of the club and he has been very cooperative."
