The Historic Preservation Trades program and the Small Business Center at Edgecombe Community College are hosting a half-day program on environmentally-friendly pest control.
The workshop will be held on Friday, March 26, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on the Tarboro campus.
Brad Filson of Nisus Corporation will discuss the various types of borates and their use in treating wood frames and structures such as houses, fences, and decks to prevent termites and other insect damage. He also will provide information about treatments to prevent and/or treat mold.
The chemicals discussed in the workshop are biodegradable and will not harm structures or the environment.
In addition to learning about the products, participants will view a demonstration in the Norfleet House located on ECC’s Tarboro campus. No products will be sold; this is an information-only presentation.
Owners of historic buildings, contractors, builders, home repair specialists, and historic preservation trades students should find this workshop useful.
The fee is $20, and space is limited. Please call Monika Fleming at 823-5166, ext. 241, or Linda Sanderson at ext. 293, to reserve a seat.
