CRIME ROUNDUP

TARBORO — The Tarboro Police Department charged three people over the past week with driving while impaired. They also charged three others for stealing merchandise from Wal-Mart.

The following people were also cited for traffic violations or charged with crimes during the past week by the police:

April 23

• Marlow Benjamin Hall, 43, of 1104 Speight St., Tarboro, was charged with driving while impaired and urinating in public.

April 24

• Kimberly Sherrod Hopkins, 32, of 618 Linden St., Tarboro, was charged with school attendance law violation.

April 25

• Bryan Keith Rogers, 24, of 9413 Pine St., Castalia, was cited for fictitious registration plate.

April 26

• Tracy Machelle Higgs, 40, of 405 Mutual Blvd., Princeville, was charged with driving while license revoked.

• Jhelisha Quaniece Smallwood, 21, of Apt 12 Glen Bridge Apartments, Princeville, was charged with driving while license revoked.

April 27

• Willie Edward White, Jr., 47, of 506 Church St., Princeville, was charged with driving while license revoked.

• Joseph Randolph, 59, of 800 King Ave., Princeville, was charged with driving while license revoked.

April 28

• Romone Smith, 41, of 605 E. 8th St., Scotland Neck, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Anthony Ronnell Johnson, 19, of 400 E. Northern Blvd. Apt. 49, Tarboro, was charged with failure to appear in court. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.

• Jacquincey Donnell Robinson, 32, of 447 Mutual Blvd., Princeville, was cited for no insurance and revoked registration plate.

• David Lopez Flores, 24, of 610 Shepard School Road, Zebulon, was charged with failure to appear in court. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.

• Diedres Glaspie, 19, of 114 E. 8th St. Washington, was charged with larceny. She was jailed under a $500 secured bond.

• Chiquetha Lashay Blount, 29, of 109 B Concord Dr., Greenville, was charged with larceny. She was jailed under a $500 secured bond.

• Jerronica Lemont Person, 33, of 285 River Road Estates, Greenville, was charged with larceny. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.

April 29

• Danyel Alice Champhers-Stephens, 26, of 1603 Longview Ave., Tarboro, was charged with driving while impaired and open container after consuming alcohol first.

• Darrell George Cox, 53, of 269 Shiloh Farm Road, Tarboro, was charged with driving while impaired, driver license restriction, flee and elude arrest and equipment violation.

April 30

• Alice May Andrews, 46, of 4485 NC Hwy 33, Tarboro, was cited for expired registration plate and expired inspection.

    Twenty-three cases of the measles have been reported in North Carolina in a recent outbreak and has state health officials concerned.
    “It (measles) is a highly contagious disease that is spread in the air by coughing and sneezing,” said Susan Rogerson, nursing director at the Edgecombe County Health Department. Outbreaks of measles in the United States are rare because of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.

  • MLK-Property.jpg County still looking for bids on 41 properties

    While county commissioners have accepted bids on seven foreclosure properties, a total of 41 others remain available for interested parties to submit bids.
    County Planning Director Brian Hassell said interested parties may submit bids for commissioners to consider. If a bid is approved and another party is interested, they may submit an upset bid.

  • Andrews.jpg Andrews assumes new position at ECPS Central Services

    John Farrelly, Superintendent of Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS), announced this week that Shawna Andrews has been named the Director of Middle Schools and Title I in the Educational Program Services Office at Central Services.
    Andrews, who most recently served as the Director of Elementary Schools and Title I, began her tenure with ECPS in 1995 as a math and science teacher at C.B. Martin Middle School. Following her completion of a Master’s in School Administration, she served as an administrative intern at G.W. Bulluck Elementary, SouthWest Edgecombe High School and Tarboro High School before being named an assistant principal at Tarboro High School in 2003.

  • Big ‘Happening’ set for Tarboro Saturday

    At no time of the year is Tarboro’s Town Common more bustling with activity than the second Saturday in May. It’s that time of year again and the 43rd Annual Happening on the Common is set for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
    “I think we’ve got a good day coming up,” said Carol Banks, event coordinator for the Edgecombe County Cultural Arts Council. “We’ve got record-breaking (number of) vendors. So far we’re up to 56.”

  • Pinetops 300 kicks into gear this weekend

    One of the biggest community events in the southern part of Edgecombe County – the Pinetops 300 – is set for Friday and Saturday at its usual spot – 309 School St. at the ballpark in Pinetops. The truck and tractor pull, South Edgecombe Rural Fire Department’s fundraiser of the year, is a longstanding tradition.

    ECC’s 44th spring commencement will begin at 10 a.m. in the Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus.
