Odessa “Yanisha” Mann was named the new principal at W.A. Pattillo School at this month’s Edgecombe County Board of Education meeting. Mann will replace current Pattillo principal Ronda Sortino, who is leaving the district at the end of December to focus on completing her doctoral degree at East Carolina University.
Mann comes to Edgecombe County Public Schools from Washington County Schools, where she most recently served as principal at Pines Elementary School. She began her career in 2004 as a fifth-grade teacher in Washington County after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor of arts in elementary education. Mann stayed in the district and went on to become an instructional technology specialist in 2007 and a high school dropout online/ site course facilitator in 2009. She continued her tenure in Washington County, becoming an assistant principal in 2010 and principal in 2011.
Mann has two master of education degrees from Grand Canyon University, one in curriculum and instruction earned in 2006 and another in educational leadership earned in 2011. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Philosophy in education through Capella University.
