An 82-year-old Harrellsville man was released from Martin General Hospital Monday, after he wrecked his car Sunday on N.C. 11.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Stephanie Young said that Clarence Joyner, 82, was driving north on N.C. 11 around 6 p.m. Sunday, when the accident occurred.
The trooper said Joyner ran his 2001 Buick off the road to the right near the Martin County and Pitt County lines, and struck a ditch, causing around $2,000 worth of damage to his car.
Young said that Joyner said he had "bumped his head" during the accident, and that he added that he "probably fell asleep" as he was driving. Joyner said that he was returning home to Harrellsville in Hertford County, after he had eaten dinner earlier in Greenville.
Joyner was taken to Martin General Hospital after the wreck, where he stayed overnight before he was released Monday.
Young said that speed was not a factor in the accident, and that Joyner did not damage any property other than his vehicle.t
