Police: Man faked injuries to obtain drugs

Third visit leads to arrest

A Tarboro man faces felony charges after Tarboro Police say he fraudulently obtained medical services from Heritage Hospital under a false name.

Ricky Leonard Adcock, 36, of 3764 N.C. 33 East in Tarboro, was charged Tuesday with three felony counts of obtaining money or property under false pretenses.

Patrolman Gabriel Gryder reported that Adcock received services from the Tarboro hospital's emergency room on Dec. 21 and Jan. 6.

According to hospital staff, Gryder reported that Adcock had used the name Ricky Moore on those dates to receive the medical treatment, including X-rays, CT scans and pain medication, worth around $5,000.

Heritage Hospital Emergency Services Director Dr. Barry Bunn told police that Adcock tried to use the name Mike Forte on Tuesday to obtain more medical service for his shoulder.

At the hospital, Adcock claimed his shoulder injury was related to his work replacing shingles on a house, Gryder reported.

Gryder said Adcock told police Tuesday his shoulder had been injured while he was trimming trees at his father's house.

Adcock told police he used the fake names because he did not have medical insurance nor enough money to see a doctor, Gryder reported.

Adcock was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $1,000 bond.
