Break-ins, purse snatching, dope in Pinetops

Four break-ins occurred in Pinetops in January, as well as a purse-snatching on Wednesday, Pinetops Police Capt. James Cappalletti reported Tuesday.

A Pinetops man also faces charges of marijuana possession with intent to sell, Cappalletti reported.

Two of the breaking and entering incidents have been solved so far he said; they occurred on Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 at Church Street residences. The items from the Jan. 6 break-in have been returned to the resident, while items are still being recovered from the Jan. 13 incident, Cappalletti said.

A purse-snatching was reported at the Dollar General store on East Hamlet Street last Wednesday. Susan Morgan, 50, of Macclesfield reportedly had her purse stolen along with merchandise from Dollar General, but was not harmed, Pinetops Manager Greg Bethea said. Cappalletti said the investigation is ongoing.

On Jan. 11, he said a search of 206 Church St. netted 28 grams of marijuana and recovered of a stolen motorcycle. One of the residents, Curtis Edwards, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a stolen vehicle, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Titania Renee Johnson, also of 206 Church St., was also charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling marijuana, Cappalletti said. Both were released from the Edgecombe County Detention Center under $25,000 bond, he said.

The town's two other break-in incidents, one that occurred on Jan. 23 at S. Sally Jenkins Street, the other on Jan. 26 at S. 2nd Street, are still being investigated, he said.
