Robbery suspect arrested
An Edgecombe County man was arrested by police Monday and charged with several robberies
According to reports, at approximately 5 a.m. Monday, Christopher Newton Allen, 20, of an U.S. 258 address, went into the Country Sunrise Grill and ordered a beverage.
After an employee retuned from the kitchen, she found Allen and a bag of money gone.
The Tarboro Police Department was promptly notified. Shortly, Allen was found at the Waffle House on Western Boulevard with a large amount of money, a laptop computer and a set of keys.
Shortly after Allen's arrest, police received another calls at approximately 10:30 a.m. from Regional In-Home Health Care, Premier Tax Services and Sasser Kraft Kitchen & Bath at Colonial Plaza on St. Andrew Street reporting they had been broken into.
A laptop computer and a set of keys were reported missing from Regional In-Home Health Care. The keys matched those found on Allen.
"We recovered the money bag, money, keys and laptop," said Lt. Keith Hale. "Apparently, he had entered into the businesses at Colonial Plaza by climbing through the ceiling tiles. We recovered all the items reported missing."
Allen has been charged with three counts of breaking and entering, and two counts of breaking and entering larceny. He is currently at the Edgecombe County Detention Center on $3,500 security bond.
