TARBORO —
The following people were charged with crimes over the past week by the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office.
July 3
• Dejon Langston, 37, of 2501 Loretta Lane, Rocky Mount, was charged with eight counts of non-support of a child. He was jailed under a $5,685 cash bond.
• Cecil Braddy, 26, of 106 Scales Place Apt. B-4, Greenville, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and obtaining property by false pretenses. He was jailed under a $6,000 secured bond.
July 4
• Earl Glenn Jones, 60, of 103 Dancy St. Apt. 3, Princeville, was charged with domestic violence protective order violation. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.
• Christopher Lee Moseley, 25, of 3410 Highway 43 N, Pinetops, was charged with driving while license revoked.
• Ambria Scott, 23, of 822 Dunbar Woods Road, Battleboro, was charged with failure to appear in court.
• Kevon Delonte Daniel, 23, of 90 Aston Lane, Battleboro, was charged with failure to appear in court.
• Willie White, 47, of 506 Church St., Tarboro, was charged with disorderly conduct. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.
• Keith Trandale Higgs, 38, of 631 Antioch Road, Rocky Mount, was charged with three counts of driving while license revoked, two counts of driving while impaired and reckless driving to endanger. He was jailed under a $26,000 secured bond.
• Barbara Godwin David, 51, of 1390 Highway 111 S, Pinetops, was charged with 17 counts of giving false information to the employment security commission.
July 5
• Kristofer Darnelle Stancil, 20, of 1557 Pinetops Crisp Road, Pinetops, was charged with failure to appear in court. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.
• Roderick Pernell Caudle, 31, of 381 Cypress Creek Court, Pinetops, was charged with driving while license revoked. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.
• James Braxton Pittman, 22, of 1218 S. Franklin St., Rocky Mount, was charged with possession of weapon by prisoner. He was jailed under a $3,500 secured bond.
July 6
• Thomas Neal Webb, 51, of 1907 Faith Baptist Church Road, Pinetops, was charged with resisting a public officer.
• Brandon Lee Davis, 26, of 116 Bumpy Lane, Tarboro, was charged with harassing phone calls.
• Steven Ray Denton, 36, of 102 E. Nash St., Macclesfield, was charged with failure to appear in court. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.
July 7
• Fernando Valdez Lynch, 23, of 672 Pender St., Rocky Mount, was charged with injury to real property. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.
• Jahnmaud Gardner, 21, of 1243 Planters St., Rocky Mount, was charged with failure to appear in court. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond.
• Richard Omega Lewis, 31, of 1520 Beverly Road, Rocky Mount, was charged with violation of court order.
• Dana Malette Tew, 43, of 84 Acie Lane, Pinetops, was charged with resist obstruct a public officer.
• Joseph Michael Williams, 45, of 3742 Faith Baptist Church Road, Pinetops, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.
July 8
• Shawn Tyrell McDowell, 26, of 6387 US 258 N, Tarboro, was charged with violation of a court order. He was jailed under a $315 cash bond.
• David Webb, 52, of 130 Strawberry Lane, Pinetops, was charged with assault by pointing a gun and simple assault.
• Guillermo Mongo Espinosa, 40, of 27 Booth Lane, Tarboro, was charged with trafficking in cocaine, conspire to traffic cocaine and promoting drug sales by a minor. He was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond.
July 10
• Kim Eileen Vereen, 29, of 1510 Rosewood Ave., Rocky Mount, was charged with failure to return rental property.
• Jermuis Erell Andrews, 31, of 309 Russell Dr., Princeville, was charged with a fugitive warrant. He is being held without bond.

• Timekevian Roykea Lewis, 16, of Northgate Apartments Apt. 45, Tarboro, was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny.
July 6
• Clyde Burren Walston, Jr., 64, of 1607 St. Andrew St., Tarboro, was charged with burglary, larceny after burglary. He was jailed under a $3,000 secured bond.
• Amy Michelle Anderson, 26, of 2303 Panola St., Tarboro, was charged with trafficking opium or heroin, maintaing a dwelling place for sale or delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute schedule V controlled substance, possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of schedule V controlled substance, possession of schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and prescription and labeling. She was placed in jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.

NTSB wants to lower DWI blood alcohol levels
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a bold set of targeted interventions to put the United States on course to eliminate alcohol-impaired related crashes. They have given recommendations that call for stronger laws, swifter enforcement and expanded use of technology.

Measles cases have state health officials concerned
Twenty-three cases of the measles have been reported in North Carolina in a recent outbreak and has state health officials concerned.
“It (measles) is a highly contagious disease that is spread in the air by coughing and sneezing,” said Susan Rogerson, nursing director at the Edgecombe County Health Department. Outbreaks of measles in the United States are rare because of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. -
County still looking for bids on 41 properties
While county commissioners have accepted bids on seven foreclosure properties, a total of 41 others remain available for interested parties to submit bids.
County Planning Director Brian Hassell said interested parties may submit bids for commissioners to consider. If a bid is approved and another party is interested, they may submit an upset bid. -
Scouts honor ‘Buddy’ Hooks
Try as he might, master of ceremonies Dave Sharpe was unable to talk someone into telling an unexpected story on Ellis “Buddy” Hooks as Hooks was recognized as the 2013 Edgecombe County Distinguished Citizen Award recipient by the Boy Scouts of America.

Sheriff's Department to host junior academy
The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department will be hosting a junior academy for students ages 13-18 years old. Sheriff James Knight believes that this is the most important times of a juvenile's life and wants them to learn about the criminal justice system.

Andrews assumes new position at ECPS Central Services
John Farrelly, Superintendent of Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS), announced this week that Shawna Andrews has been named the Director of Middle Schools and Title I in the Educational Program Services Office at Central Services.
Andrews, who most recently served as the Director of Elementary Schools and Title I, began her tenure with ECPS in 1995 as a math and science teacher at C.B. Martin Middle School. Following her completion of a Master’s in School Administration, she served as an administrative intern at G.W. Bulluck Elementary, SouthWest Edgecombe High School and Tarboro High School before being named an assistant principal at Tarboro High School in 2003. -
Big ‘Happening’ set for Tarboro Saturday
At no time of the year is Tarboro’s Town Common more bustling with activity than the second Saturday in May. It’s that time of year again and the 43rd Annual Happening on the Common is set for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
“I think we’ve got a good day coming up,” said Carol Banks, event coordinator for the Edgecombe County Cultural Arts Council. “We’ve got record-breaking (number of) vendors. So far we’re up to 56.” -
Pinetops 300 kicks into gear this weekend
One of the biggest community events in the southern part of Edgecombe County – the Pinetops 300 – is set for Friday and Saturday at its usual spot – 309 School St. at the ballpark in Pinetops. The truck and tractor pull, South Edgecombe Rural Fire Department’s fundraiser of the year, is a longstanding tradition.

Daughtridge keynote speaker for ECC graduation Saturday
“The world out there starts here” is Edgecombe Community College (ECC)’s motto, and for hundreds of students, the “world out there” begins Saturday at spring graduation.
