TARBORO — Sara Stuart Hughes and David Michael Balzer were united in marriage on June 2nd, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, NC. Dr. Reverend William Hawkins officiated. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the New Bern Golf and Country Club. Dr. and Mrs. Brian Balzer hosted the rehearsal dinner.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Lewis Hughes of New Bern, NC. Her Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hughes of Tarboro, NC, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Pierce of Ahoskie, NC. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Brian Bruce Balzer, Sr. of Charlotte, NC. His grandparents are Mrs. Mary Jane Cultrona and the late Mr. Ned Cultrona of Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Balzer of Cleveland, Ohio.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, Michael Hughes. Miss Ann Garrett Hughes, sister of the bride, served as Maid of Honor. Bridal Attendants were Ms. Kathleen Pigford of New York, NY, Ms. Gloria Guthrie of Raleigh, NC, and Ms. Rebecca le Roux of Raleigh, NC. Jane Pierce Stoecker of Raleigh, NC, served as Flower Girl. Mr. Brian Balzer, brother of the groom, served as best man. Grooms Attendants were Mr. Joseph Kelley of Charlotte, NC, Mr. Robert Edwards of Cary, NC, and Mr. Joel Herlocker of Charlotte, NC. Organist was Mrs. Cindy Sutton and Soloist was Ms. Chantal Hollatschek, Book Attendant was Allison Hughes of Raleigh, NC, directed by Ms. Nancy Perdue.

Her dress was designed by Watters and described as being an Ivory English Net Strapless gown, with a sweetheart neckline, an embellished waist, a full a-line skirt with lace motifs and lace scallop at the hem, accentuated by the Chapel train and an Ivory Erica Kosler fingertip veil with blusher and organza ribbon trim.

The bride is a 2009 Summa Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina State University with a BS Degree and a 2011 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Masters in Speech and Hearing Sciences.

The groom is a 2010 Cum Laude graduate of North Carolina State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is employed as a Commissioning Specialist with RMF Engineering.

The couple honeymooned in Savannah, GA and resides in Raleigh, NC.
